Mission Statement

The mission of the Tulane General Preventive Medicine Residency Program is to provide residents with an accredited, high quality educational experience that will train them for careers in academic, administrative, and public health practice. This is accomplished through academic excellence in the didactic education of preventive medicine professionals, creative partnerships to learn and advance the practice of public health, engagement in innovative service to the public health community and active involvement in scientific research or public health-related projects.

The goals of the program include:

  • Provide a curriculum for academic and practicum experiences in order to prepare graduates to identify, resolve, and prevent population-based health problems and to manage health-related programs
  • Engage residents in clinical preventive services in various community settings
  • Advance preventive medicine and public health knowledge by conducting scientific investigation and/or quality management projects and disseminating the results
  • Improve the health of communities through collaborative population-based and patient-specific approaches to disease prevention and health promotion
