Tulane's Preventive
Medicine Residency Program is a two (2) year program which is fully
accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education
(ACGME). The program is designed to fulfill requirements leading
to certification by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Prior
to entering the program, candidates must complete at least one (1)
year (HO-1) in an ACGME accredited program, transitional program
or primary care specialty such as internal medicine, family medicine,
pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, or general surgery. Applicants
must be accepted to both the Preventive Medicine Residency Program
and the School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine if they have
not already earned an MPH or PhD in Public Health.
The Preventive
Medicine Residency Program, a unique program cosponsored by Tulane
University's School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the
School of Medicine, is designed to train residents for careers in
academic, administrative, and/or public health practice.
The program
consists of academic work leading to a Master of Public Health degree
and supervised practicum experience that fosters application of
the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of preventive medicine and
public health.
